Construction – Traffic & Access Arrangements

For the first five weeks of the construction process, construction vehicles will access the site from an existing access point on the High Street.  After those five weeks the High Street access will be closed, and from then on all construction vehicles will access the site from a new access point created on Hoad Way.

Construction traffic will be directed to avoid the centre of the village, with all vehicles accessing the site via Bath Road and Hoad Way, and vehicles will not be allowed to park on surrounding roads whilst waiting to access the site.  We will also use our best endeavours to avoid deliveries taking place during morning and afternoon peak hours.

INITIAL VEHICLE ACCESS FROM HIGH STREET

An access to the site already exists on the High Street a short distance east of the junction with Woodfield Way, immediately adjacent to a parking area next to R&M Lighting.

This existing access will be widened to accommodate construction vehicles and the existing gate removed.  Two sets of secure, lockable gates will be installed: one set of gates on the site boundary and another set of gates 20 metres into the site. The space between the two gates will be used as a holding area for vehicles, so that any vehicle waiting to access the site can park safely on-site and not obstruct the street.  The outer gates will be opened at 7am to allow any vehicles arriving prior to the 7.30 am site opening time to park safely off the street.

We appreciate that the High Street is a well-used walking route for schoolchildren, and signage will be displayed advising drivers of this and warning them to take extra care.  All delivery traffic will be directed via prominent signposts off the High Street and into the vehicle holding area on-site.

NEW VEHICLE ACCESS FROM HOAD WAY

While the High Street access is in use, a new vehicle access to the site will be created from Hoad Way.  After five weeks this new access will be opened and the High Street access closed, with all construction traffic using the new Hoad Way access from that point on.  This access will ultimately become the sole vehicle access to the new units, formalised into a priority junction later in the construction process.

There will need to be some limited closure of Hoad Way’s southbound lane and footway to fully connect the new access with the existing highway, but this will mostly come later in the construction process when the access is formalised.

Once the Hoad Way access has been created, the High Street access will be closed to vehicles and ultimately converted into a permanent access for pedestrians and cyclists only.  This pedestrian / cycle access will be closed to the public until the construction process is completed.
