Construction traffic is directed to avoid the centre of the village, with all vehicles accessing the site via Bath Road and Hoad Way, and vehicles are not allowed to park on surrounding roads whilst waiting to access the site.  We are also using our best endeavours to avoid deliveries taking place during morning and afternoon peak hours.

 

15TH JULY 2026 UPDATE – FURTHER SHORT EXTENSION OF TIME TO USE HIGH STREET ACCESS

(up to and including Tuesday 4th August)

 

Our construction team was granted an eight-week extension of time by WBC Highways to continue using the initial site access from the High Street (Monday 1st June to Friday 24th July inclusive).  This was to allow for 1) the lowering of utilities cables that were preventing the creation of the new site access from Hoad Way, and 2) the creation of the new Hoad Way access itself.

 

The works to lower the utilities have now been completed. However, we have not yet begun creating the new Hoad Way access because WBC Highways have stipulated that we cannot start these works until Wednesday 22nd July, when schools in West Berkshire break up for the summer holidays.  The current eight-week extension to use the High Street access expires on Friday 24th July, just two days later.

 

We consider that it will take up to two weeks to create the new Hoad Way access, and as a result we have been granted a second, much shorter extension of time to continue using the High Street access, up to and including Tuesday 4th August.  Though this further delay is regrettable, we have to respect the wishes of WBC Highways in this matter.

 

The works to create the Hoad Way access will therefore take place from Wednesday 22nd July to Tuesday 4th August inclusive.  These works are subject to a separate construction management procedure and would take place six days a week (Monday to Saturday) from 8am to 6pm.  Hoad Way’s southbound lane and footway will need to be closed during these works, with two-way traffic lights in place on Hoad Way to manage traffic.

 

Once the Hoad Way access works are completed, the High Street access will be closed to vehicles.

 

 

INITIAL VEHICLE ACCESS FROM HIGH STREET (CURRENTLY IN USE)

 

An access to the site exists on the High Street a short distance east of the junction with Woodfield Way, immediately adjacent to a parking area next to R&M Lighting.

This existing access has been widened to accommodate construction vehicles and the existing gate removed.  An on-site area has been provided as a holding area for vehicles, so that any vehicle wanting to access the site can park safely on-site and not obstruct the street.
